Cedar Realty’s CEO namely Bruce Schanzer is now facing charges of pay discrimination and sexual harassment as filed by their former Chief Operating Officer namely Nancy H. Mozzachio. It will now be all up to a Brooklyn judge to either proceed the lawsuit or not.
Based on the lawsuit Nancy Mozzachio filed on November 2 to CEO Schanzer, she says that she finds Schanzer always leering at women as well as making comments that are not appropriate to them while in the workplace. Schanzer is used to calling Nancy Mozzachio ‘babe’ as well as commenting about her breasts. After bringing on her desk a coffee cup from Dunkin Donuts, she claimed that he made a comment about bringing some double Ds to work. Moreover, she says that Schanzer has been giving here some groping hugs that are just uncalled for.
By the time that Nancy H. Mozzachio filed her case to the court for pay disparity and sexual harassment, the company has then decided that it be best for them to fire her. By February 2016, she was terminated when she was found to have gone to the outside counsel of Cedar to discuss what procedures she must take for the sexual harassment lawsuit she is filing. Based on her claims, after her meeting was canceled on the spot, she was then being told by the company that she will be terminated the next week.
During the year 2015 when an external investigator decided to probe on the allegations, Cedar Realty then decided to start investigating on the matter. Even if these investigations were being done by the company, Nancy Mozzachio says that the investigator always stepped back when they were allegations of sexual harassment to Schanzer by the female employees. The Wall Street Journal has even made mention about one of the employees being asked by Schanzer what color of underwear she is wearing. In order for the investors not to know about this matter, the company has decided to pay the people who have filed some complaints against Schanzer about their being sexually harassed.
The company has obtained some success because of Nancy Mozzachio and she as well. She has made her way to the top as being the chief operating officer in the year 2014 after she has become the director of leasing and vice president of leasing in the years 2003 and 2004, respectively. Based on her lawsuit, she mentions that even if she is supposed to get higher compensation than the CFO as being the COO, she was being paid lower salary as well as a small bonus than the chief operating officer. Of course, for Cedar Realty, they are not true and are very much satisfied that after the board has done their investigations, the allegations were of no merit.
Nancy H. Mozzachio is still coming back for more after this denial. She will continue fighting for the right of women working in a safer workplace.
